Habitat loss is the number one reason in most areas. Farming practices have changed a lot over the last 20 years, a lot of areas now are farmed fence row to fence row, used to be the fence rows and creek beds were left more of less 'wild' and great cover and nesting for bobs, now they are kept clear of brushy areas. We don't have the fireant problem up here, a lot of people complain about the turkeys (we have thousands), but we have good populations of quail also, this winter probably took a horrible toll. We will know more soon when they start to call and take chicks to the road.
