Why isint there any Wild Bobwhites anymore?? Darn!!!

have some here in the field...i get out and answer back to them and sometimes i get to see one.

Fire ants are a large part of it down here in the Deep South. Habitat loss, CATS, other kinds of predators.

There isn't any one single cause, but a varying mix of a number of them.

.....Alan.

Habitat loss is the number one reason in most areas. Farming practices have changed a lot over the last 20 years, a lot of areas now are farmed fence row to fence row, used to be the fence rows and creek beds were left more of less 'wild' and great cover and nesting for bobs, now they are kept clear of brushy areas. We don't have the fireant problem up here, a lot of people complain about the turkeys (we have thousands), but we have good populations of quail also, this winter probably took a horrible toll. We will know more soon when they start to call and take chicks to the road.

I hear them quite often and see them occasionally here in Ohio. I was told they took a dramatic population loss here after the '79 Blizzard. :dunno

Coyotes!I was hunting and a dog whent on point,a coyote came out right along side the dog and seen me and did a U turn back into the brush.I walked into the brush and found little round piles of feathers. That is what the dog was smelling.I dont know how they are catching them but they are!

We do have fire ants and coyotes, but our greatest problem seems to be feral cats. I had one take my biggest hens while my rooster tried to fend him off. Finally took a bullet to take him out. People don't realize how many unwanted kittens can be produced fromone pair of unaltered cats.
