why no eggs?(update and contest)

In answer to Redhen's question - the thing with Scratch is that it's not that nutritonally correct for chickens. It's not that it's "bad" for them, but it's sort of like a candy bar for us; it's yummy, but not that nutritional for them, and should only be used as a treat - not as their main source of feed.

I know exactly how you feel. I kept checking and checking, and - TRUE STORY - that's how I found BYC. I was looking for info. on the 'net to see if I could find out the average starting age for mine to begin laying, and I found BYC, joined (this is one of only two forums I'm a member of), asked when they'd begin to lay...and I swear on my Mother's grave, went home THAT VERY NIGHT, and got my first egg! I sure wasn't expecting it, after so many days of nothing....nothing...nothing!

We got 2 eggs yesterday from 2 of our teens . 19 weeks old ( rir's ) that means we got 28 teens to go . Look out when they all laying . We will have a total of 46 layers .


This morning after several months of being broody and molting , our Old english Game Bantam hen is back on the nest to lay . Yipppeeeeeeeee

AWESOME, Canjunlizz! Yep, you'll have eggs coming out of your ears! I've got a bunch of juveniles that I'm waiting on as well...the waiting game is so hard! I've got Wellsummers, EEs, Marans, and jersey Giant x new hamp reds! Oldest is 21 weeks, but that's the Wellies, and they don't start until 24 - 26 weeks. Hurry up & wait!!

I have no experience with austraulorps, but I believe BRs begin about 21 weeks. Too funny -they probably DID hear your gumbo comment!!
