If it's molting, isn't this is strange time of year to start? And it's not symetrical, and she is totally bare in those areas. It's not pecking from other birds. No bugs that I can see either. Any ideas?

My girls are molting too. Out of 13, there must be at least 8 in various stages of molt. Some have barely any "fluff" left on their backsides, some have bald spot at base of tail, a couple are sparse in feathers around the neck...I know people say that it occurs during the fall/winter, but mine started this spring. I believe that stress can bring it on, and I did recently deworm them with Wazine a few weeks back. I think that kind of brought the molt on. I'm still getting 8 or so eggs a day, so it's not hurting them too much yet. But they sure do look funny!

I have a brown Leghorn, she is about one year old. Are your brown leghorns good layers? She will lay about twice a week. But since taking the winter off, (and we don't have much of a winter, I might add) She laid one tiny egg and about two weeks later one large egg. It has been about three weeks and no eggs. She is good other then that. ??

I have chickens that have a bald spot on the base of their tails and JUST recently have seen quite a few feathers. I got them saddles a couple of weeks ago cause I thought it was the rooster but now you got me thinking. Also, one or two of them have feathers around their necks that look thinner. If this id my imagination or not I don't know. I am wondering just don't know how to figure out which it is specially since mine haven't molted for the first time yet.
