It is nice if people choose to.
But there may be those people who don't want to say where they are from for whatever reason and it should be respected. And should never be made mandatory.

It is mandatory on the two bee forums I'm on and to tell you the truth, I see no reason why you shouldn't put your location in your profile. South of Boston, MA is vague enough that no one is going to be able to find me if I want to use that as a location. I've switched to putting my town in (just haven't switched this one yet), however, because I'm just not afraid of any boogeyman on the internet. If someone wants to find me, they can find me - but then they'll have to deal with my security system, which is pocketable

I put my state, but I didn't like doing it . . . it doesn't matter how vague the details are, it bothers me that there is information about me that can be looked at by anybody. The fact that I can type in my brothers' names and find school articles about them on the internet makes me slightly queasy. I am not a conspiracy theorist and don't really think people are stalking me for information to rip me off, but it is something I am very uncomfortable with, and I completely understand not wanting to put what state you're in on a public forum.

Does mine work? Do you need the state or do most folks figure it out? I could add "world's finest" to my tag line.

Heck, it is the last week of October and I am wishing it would get colder - 95degree high today and finally this evening we have 20% humidity - time for fall weather!

It's a personal choice if you want to put it in. It is very helpful though, especially when talking about laws, weather, and things where location matters, and it isn't included in the post.

Lots of things can be found on the internet. I'm sure anyone here could find me if they tried hard enough. Just don't do something like approach me in the dark or catch me off guard by myself.
