Well for one, I got a wooden chicken step feeder. I've had it for about 6 months now and have discovered that 2 inch mice have chewed multiple holes, through the 1 inch wooden frame. I have been noticing that the feed has been disappearing and found that feed has been falling out of the holes. The mice have stolen at least 40 pounds of feed from the last few months. I originally got the wooden feeder to keep out the mice and birds. But have noticed it was a waste of 70 dollars. I found mental ones by looking up metal chicken step feeder, they were from $20 to $50. Don't waste your time with the wooden ones. They are a piece of crap.:)

Where are you finding metal treadle feeders for $20-50? When I looked, the Grandpa's Feeder was the only one I saw that looked to be all metal and it was more like $200.

Hello....I think I remember your first post when you were getting the feeder....Sorry it did not go as well as planned...I have a Hanging feeder and feed inside my Coop..Its high enough so they can't scratch out the feed..
Best wishes....

Thanks, yeah somehow a couple months ago when this updated all my articles were deleted.

My feeder is osb board. I built it as a corner feeder and it's about 1' off the floor and 4' tall. I wouldn't change it for anything else. I have no wastage, it holds a 50lb bag and because it's built into the corner, it takes up no space.

Yep I just built a feeder that hangs on the wall from 1x6 and plywood. 12" off the floor and not a spec of food is wasted.
