Heart and liver disorders could also be possible. If you are in the US, I would be tempted to send this body off to your state vet for a necropsy. The body must be kept cold, but not frozen.
Not living is US. Liver was looking fine normal dark red color. but there was an organ beside it colored black not sure what that was exactly.What is your location? my guess as well. So dark green its almost black - and the only area of a chicken I am particularly cautious around when butchering mine. The contents of that little sack are NOT good eats. and not easily washed away.It could have been the gallbladder. Here is a picture of organs labeled:
