Why was my chick green

I just got a cackle hatchery surprise box with this Lil green tinted one in it.

I didn't see any green gel, but I also wasn't looking for it either!
Some hatcheries put it in, and some don't.
If they put it in, the chicks often eat it all up before they reach you.
And the green spot in the straw can easily be mistaken for chick poop ;)

So it's often hard to know if it was there or not.

But given how very green it is, I can easily see a chick stumbling into it and getting some green color on their fluff!
 
Older thread. I don't know if any hatcheries still color chicks for Easter. Some did in the past. They would inject eggs with different colors and the chicks would hatch out in the different colors.
 
Most of the chicks that hatched with color is usually totally the color of the dye. Maybe this one didn't color completely so they gave you a surprise, a chick with a green hiney. The green will molt out. Good luck and have fun...
