She's just being a good mommy and protecting her chicks. Mommy will teach them how to eat and where the food and water is. It's amazing to watch and hear the different sounds she will use to "talk" to them. Have fun and enjoy!

If the chicks are still damp bothering them will totally piss mine off. But all my chickens in general let me look once the babies are dry. Let the mother mother.

I also have new chicks just hatched last Saturday. They're bantams and their mother is REALLY protective. She fluffs herself up and looks like a miniature turkey and runs toward me when I put my hands in to change waterers or feeders. I know she doesn't hurt when she pecks, but I jump back just the same.
LOL:lol:

That's it EXACTLY ! Usually they will stay on the nest 2-3 days to let all the eggs hatch. Then they will start to move the babies out for food and water. We have one named DD (Demon Daughter) her mother was the original demon hen. She would scream and come off the nest at us, if she grabbed our arms or legs she would hold on and twist the skin. She has never lost a baby in all 3 times she has went broody. My husband says they were all just scared to die !!
