Why would a chicken stand like this ?

Yes I understand that but the bird is still trying to stand after not therefore she the bird is not giving up I dont kill them till they put no more effort into getting better this bird seems to be trying is what I am saying

My bird tried to stand, but she ended up dying only a few minutes later. I wish I put her out of her misery sooner. If its a reproductive issue, she will never recover fully.

The way this bird stands hints to a severe, incurable reproductive problem such as cancer or egg yolk peritonitis or similar.

As the vet already found free fluid building up in her abdomen and a vastly enlarged liver, I would immediately put her out of her misery, as despite the antibiotic treatment and all the care in the world these cases do not really recover, all the well-intentioned treatments usually only prolong the birds' suffering.

As one person pointed out-not able to stand to standing weakly is an improvement. Wait for morning and see if there's more improvement. Then decide. Any improvement in the morning means she has a chance.

fluid but not enough to be drained and also a large liver. The vet has diagnosed EYP and has said she has severe inflammation and also most likely fatty liver which is apparently common in ex batteries.

She keeps standing like she is in the photo and sinking down she can’t seem to keep her wings against her body does anybody know why this is . I’m not going to let her suffer. Today is her first proper day of treatment and she is back at the vets tommrow , if she has not improved by the morning I feel it may be kinder to have her put to sleep. I’m currently giving her water with critical care formula. However I’m not sure how long it takes for anti inflammatory and antibiotics to kick in. I’m not sure what to do, I don’t want to keep her going if she is struggling but also don’t know how long I should give for the medicines to work.

So sorry that Edith is not doing well, I know it's been a struggle and you are doing all you can for her.
I know you have been doing all you can for her, sadly, if she were mine I would put her out of her misery.

Thank you all so much for kind and helpful advice. There is not much improvement this morning it’s been 48 hours since she’s been really poorly and I think the kindest thing will be for her to be put to sleep.

Due to covid and lack of vets I can’t get an appointment for her till tonight. She’s on 1ml loxicom will that keep her comfortable for today. I don’t really want to take her to a vet not experienced with chickens as I want it to be as peaceful and stress free as possible.

I feel so sad and that I’m doing something wrong. I’ve only ever had ex battery hens and I’ve lost quite a few to EYP. I was going to have the implant for Edith but decided to just get the injection to stop her laying due to it being Christmas incase she was sick and the vets were shut all week! and now I feel awful I didn’t just get the implant last week. She’d be 5 in June I just feel so sad loosing them.

If they are EX battery hens, you are giving them a really good life. Thank you for having such a big heart. I know its very hard, having them die so young, and seeing them in pain, but you are doing the right thing. Sexlinks are not known for their long lifespans, unfortunately, and she has really lived it all.

For ex battery hens to reach almost 5 years you must have done everything right and cared for them very successfully!

Sadly, these reproductive issues are vocational diseases in ex battery hens.

Thank you all so much for your support through this it’s been really difficult. She’s has just been put to sleep. The pressure of the fluid (the vet said more like dough than fluid so she couldn’t be drained) was affecting her heart so she was struggling to breathe she went very quickly and I think it was the right thing to do. She was our Christmas card this year and spent today eating a bit of yoghurt having lots of cuddles
