... get rid of four laying black stars? I was at the feed store today and they had four healthy laying black stars in the for sale pen. They were laying eggs just on the bottom of the pen. Why would someone get rid of these? A friend of mine bought them so they got a good home and he gets eggs but I find it odd that someone didn't want to keep them.

Could be that the owner was ill and just couldn't keep them, or maybe they had them and was "caught" and had to get rid of them, or just didn't like being a chicken owner.

a friend of mine did the same thing.did not realize that there was more to it than giving food and water and collecting eggs.just think how many cats and dogs are at the pound for the same reason

Could even have been resulting from a foreclosure. It's good the birds were brought in to find a good home, though.

Haha... when we first started in the spring, I told hubby I wanted 4 chickens. Thankfully, he knows how chicken math works and built me a coop that could fit many more than that!
