Why would someone remove drywall from inside a closet?

They probably needed a bigger piece but didn't want to spend the money/energy to do it properly. After all, it's only a closet, right? Who's gonna see it ? :he
IKR? It's true I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't done a big clean in there.

However... we did find a HUGE black widow in there a few years back. 😱 Now we know where she came from!

Does it look like there has been any drywall replaced anywhere in the house? They might've took it out to use elsewhere.
Interesting! There was a large square of drywall replaced in the bathroom, you know where people step out of the tub and splash on the wall if they're not careful? It was there. I don't think those sections were used, though, the repair was a single big piece.

I wonder if there's any other pieces taken out that you don't know about? Is there a possibility that the piece was replaced more than once, and the first time was from the closest?

Are we sure it was removed? Could it maybe be where they ran out of drywall and just didn't want to spend the money to finish it (doesn't really sound like it if the edges are jagged)?

Gotta love doing home repairs afte a previous owners' renovations. When we redid the closet in the downstairs bedroom we found electrical wires that were just wrapped in a plastic bag instead of capped off properly behind the drywall!

To me it looks like someone was looking to add or repair duct work, plumbing, or electrical and it wasn't going to work out. So they sold the house to you.:D
Its no big deal, just rip some 1x and screw it in there and paint it, call it good. It would be hard to tape it without taking out the shelf.

My brain went to criminal activity first too. Probably need to stop watching Law & Order…
Hahaha, now you all have me thinking maybe I'd better get a mirror and look around before closing it all up. I'll probably just find more big spiders though. 😳

I heard mothballs work to repel spiders, but it might be an old wives tale, but I'd toss some other repellant/baits in the void before closing it up.

ETA: I'm also very curious what lurks behind the wall now, lol.

I poked around but didn't find any treasure or contraband or human bones, so I went ahead and started filling it in with some Great Stuff Big Gap Filler. Probably ruined the holiday plans of a lot of spiders, though.

This would bug me to no end. To the lumber yard, dry wall, spackle and tape. Three coats of spackle, wet sand and paint. Or put stuff back in the closet, close the door, call it good. :lau
