My little cross bred chicken (not sure if its hen or roo yet) keeps peeping and running under the older roo and acts like its trying to nurse! almost like a baby horse would do with its mom. lol. Why in the world would it do that? all add a pic of the bird. maybe someone can help tell me the sex also? There is a pic of the bird on one of my other posts, I cant figure out how to put another pic on here for you to see the bird. Myabe someone can also help me figure out what sex it is.

Thanks
Sue

One of my chicks does that, and mine are all the same age! I think it's because chicks would normally run under mama for protection and warmth, so when they haven't been raised by a hen they find a substitute. It does look rather like it's trying to nurse. I'm surprised my 4yo hasn't commented about that, since she insists that chickens have "nanas" and will occasionally even draw a mother hen with nipples! Come to think of it, she hasn't done this since we've been brooding chicks. Maybe that's what it took to convince her that chickens aren't mammals.
