Wich way should the coop face. Nth? Sth/

we have hoop coops which are covered by tarps.. the back of the coops where the solid wall is faces the North since we get those darn cold north winds in the winter

the "open" end of each coop faces South to take advantage of our (pretty much constant) southern breeze in the summer

Unless your building a greenhouse this isn't an issue. Arrange it acording to your own preferences. You might want to face the door away from your prevailing winds if your in a northern climate, but that is a very, very minor issue if the building is draft free.

Some think that facing all windows away from the rising sun will delay roosters crowing. That is pure myth. Mine crow at 4:30 in the morning when it is pitch blak ouside.

Our coops are (somewhat) mobile, so in the Spring/Summer, they are out under the shade trees where it is considerably cooler and they get the prevailing breeze, if there is one.

In the winter, we move them up near the house, facing away from the prevailing winds, and position the tarps over their runs to also block the weather. But we live on top of a hill and get horrendous, hurricane force winds up here, and this works well for us/them and our chickens hate wind. We have to use anchors and tie downs to keep the coops from lifting or blowing over - everything blows away up here. We just moved them all yesterday so I guess we are ready for winter.
