Wicks for hygrometer

I got a new therm/hygrometer from GQF it came with wicks. They say you only leave a wick on for 24 hours then throw it away. Isn't using a wet bulb for checking humidity a good thing to do? I don't know if I can keep throwing out wicks everyday or am I not understanding something?

years ago in the A/C trade we used old style shoelaces before everything went digital LOL
