Width of ladder going to coop?

What is a good width for the ladder going to the coop?

My husband made ours a foot wide. We have another one that is 18 inches wide so i think its really personal prefrence.

I was going to make it 6 in, is that too small?

I made mine 7in...I'm told 6 is about minimum and the longer it is, the more support it will need so it might need to be wider if its very long

Mine is a redwood fence board 5ft long 6" (5.5") wide, no support just straight from the ground to the opening 28" off the ground. Most of the hens skip the board and just hop into the opening. The largest hens I have are 7 BO's
