Found this guy in the woods a week ago, looked like he either fledged too early or fell (couldn’t find a nest). Couldn’t fly up until two days ago, now he doesn’t stop. He’d feeding on garden bugs and insects and has feathered out a lot since finding him.

I can’t ID him. I thought maybe some variety of Tit. He’s got cream chest feathers, grey back feathers with yellow feathers over his lower back. A black forked tail. Wings are black with white bands and some yellow feathers. Legs are grey to pink. He must only be 6cm tall. Would guess he’s maybe 3 weeks old?

I live in east England which is where he was found.

I only want to know the breed. I’m not harming, breeding or keeping it in any way. It will be released when we revisit the trail soon.

I can't identify the bird as I am unfamiliar with European species, but I can tell you at the age that you found the bird it is perfectly normal for them to be out of the nest and on the ground as they learn to fly. The adults will care for it on the ground. There is no need for human intervention at that stage.

My mum picked him up because it’s a well used trail and he was just in the middle of it. Her dogs only killed a house martin the other week.

I haven’t kept him for fun or any kind of aesthetics. He can free fly round my dads house. He’ll be released soon.

Wasn't being judgy. I don't know the legality of it in your county either, so that is one thing you may wish to look into if you don't already know. I was just giving you information that the bird was in no danger and was preforming a perfectly normal function of its life cycle before it was picked up.

And I appreciate the concern. It is legal to care for a wild bird here. I’m not harming the bird, breeding it, or keeping it. I’m letting it go next weekend when we go to the trail again. I told her she should’ve shifted it back into the tree line, as it was in danger from dogs on the path, I wasn’t there to inform her at the time however.

Okay, so I’m thinking it’s a female Chaffinch
