I was wondering if anyone ever had this happen. A few years ago my mom had some peking ducks 2 were female. She lives in an area where there are flocks of wild ducks in the summer one of the large flocks are black ducks. Well to make a long story short a couple of male black ducks got busy with the peking females and whala some very pretty babies were born. They were solid black with white chests all though there was one oddball with a white spot on his head. Unfortunately the female pekings decided to run off with their new beaus in the fall bringing with them all their babies (it was weird though since I thought pekings couldn't fly) Every spring the babies come back. They were just so beautiful wondering if this could happen again?(only on purpose next time)

There was a thread just this week about Pekins flying, don't think anyone said theirs could get very far off the ground. Are you sure they were Pekins? And

Hello and welcome-

but please be aware- what you propose is

Not legal in FL, (and many other places) actually that's -why- most ducks are not legal in Duval county FL (only domestic, non-flighted Pekins are legal and Mullard (mule) ducks or pinnated ducks with paperwork form a domestic facility).

The hybrids hurt the local populations due to differing instinct and differing or lack of camouflage.

Every surviving hybrid duck that breeds with a pure duck removes the opportunity for more pure ducks... it also allows more human habituated ducks into the wild.

These ducks are not as 'shy' as wild ducks and have a harder time hiding (due to the non camouflage colors) so they are more prone to hunting 'accidents' and predation.

Please do not due this there are all colors of domestic ducks that can be kept for their whole lives.

If you want to have domestic ducks that are bibbed Swedish are a great choice.

They were definitely pekings. I don't know about purebred as my mom got them I think from a grain store. They looked pure white with the orange legs and bill. The males had the curly feather. I am no expert on ducks to say the least I have only ever had roens myself(and I thought they were mallards until I actually saw a real mallard

As far as letting the cross breeds go back to the wild or ANY PET for that matter I am against it. I had no say in the matter as far as that is concerned. My mothers husband said it would be fine and he wouldn't listen to me. My husband and I even tried looking for them but they were already gone. I have been severely against any pet being left in the wild every since I found 3 Rhode Island Reds in the woods across my house when I was a teen. I even asked around the town and all the neighbors and they didn't "run away" from anywhere. It wasn't too hard we were in the "sticks" there were only 4 neighbors.

I did see the swedish ducks looked very close to what the ducklings looked like and thought that if I did get ducks I would probably try to get those. My question was I guess more of a hypothetical as I really don't have the room for them where I live.

Thank you for welcoming me
MissLydia are those Muscovy ducks in your profile pick? I haven't really ever liked Muscovies but those look pretty.
