If you really wanted to check them over now, you can take a flashlight out after dark to do it. They should be sleepy enough not to mind being handled if they've been asleep for a while.

On the topic of worming, it pretty much is up to you. Obviously either way works or we would hear about a lot more flocks dropping dead after being wormed. You'll find what works for you as you go along. :)

Yes night is the perfect time to handle them. I had an extremly mean rooster and at night he would perch on my shoulder and transformed into a huge sweetheart.
 
Well good, I'll take your word for it. I'd rather not medicate if I don't have to, so I won't worry about it unless I actually see worms. And I'll definitely try to handle them at night then! I had no idea that about that trick! Unfortunately it's all raining and nasty out tonight, but hopefully tomorrow night I can give it a shot!
