Hey BYC, a friend of mine could use some (any!) advice. She has a condo in Palm Springs, CA and there is a wild duck w/ 11 eggs nesting in her courtyard. It's happened before and one time the eggs did not hatch, another time some hatched.

I don't know from ducks so any help (should she give momma water? etc.) is appreciated!

It could have been one of her earlier hatches and those aren't always the best hatch rates. The best thing she can do is make sure she is not being disturbed by people or other animals.

It would be very nice if she gave Mama Duck some water in a deep dish. And pretty much leave her alone while she is brooding her clutch of eggs. If she wanted to give her some food, peas are good, or some mixed salad greens in a separate dish OR just tossed on the patio.

If it were my condo, I would set up a short screen around her to give her some privacy, but leave an opening of about 18-20 inches wide for he duck to get in and out of her hiding place.
