Hello! A couple in a park near us picked up a wild duckling and brought it home- and then gave it to one of our friends. Our friend doesn’t have the necessary supplies to care for them so we are considering caring for the duckling! We have three full grown domesticated ducks. If we were to raise the duckling then introduce it to the flock, would it migrate or fly away? Or would it become too attached to us/ the other ducks to leave? Any other things we should know about raising wild duck?

As much as you can love ducks, when they are wild there are many important things about wild ducks. firstly, they are wild So they could have diseases and people might feed them bad stuff. secondly it might have family in that playground! You don’t want to seperate them. It’s up to you, if you want them. It isn’t too bad but it’s higher likely that they are gonna have or get diseases since the wild is there home.

Yea, I wish we didn’t have to take him but he’s been separated for a while now. Again, this was a friend of a friend that chose to take it, not me. It’s not right to take them from the wild but I don’t want him to die now. He seems very young, so I dont think there is as high of a risk of diseases and stuff! We are going to keep him warm and feed him for a couple days until we can find a permanent solution- we have a friend who just hit ducklings who may be able to take him in

Call your local wildlife rehab center or your parks and rec department and explain your situation, its illegal to possess a wild duck under the migratory bird treaty act.
