Hello,

I rescued two wild ducklings that hatched few hours in a nest i was keeping an eye on! Without any shown symptoms, the 1st one died after two days and 2nd one the day after! I couldn't tell why! Thought they needed a medication or any!
I have a 4 years old Pekin duck i brought her once she was hatched and she's alive up till now. The owner said it was because her mom was medicated.
What do you think? Did they need medication?!

Why did they need recusing? Was the nest abandoned, did the mom die, or...?

What were you feeding them? Did they have water at all times? A heat lamp?

I'm a bit confused on the last part. You brought your duck the babies once they hatched?

The owner said it was because her mom was medicated.
The owner of who?

Sorry, I just want to understand what you are trying to say.

The mom wasn't around and i was sure she was dead :'(
After i brought these poor babies, i gave them starter food with fine chopped greens and water of course. They were under a heat lamp in the evening and under sunlight in the morning (not all the time under sunlight) they were swimming and playing normally!

The last part that i mentioned was a domesticated duckling i brought! She hatched in a farm of friend and i brought her and she lived.
I'm only curious about that!

Honestly it sounds like they might have chilled playing in the water and no heating to direct them under. Without momma they tend to chill quickly at that age with access to to much water to play in.

Ducklings don’t tend to need much in the way of meds specially if there is nothing medically wrong. So I wouldn’t chalk it up to needing meds.

One thing you must understand with wild ducks each different species may have different needs . For example wood ducks need live food to get them eating such as tiny worms , meal worms almost anything that wiggles and moves excites their feeding habits . Mallards are easier spread crumble food on the drinking water . The water has to be limited or they will chill . If the eye pupils are dilating rapidly they are going into cold shock . With out knowing what species you have it is very hard to say . If you make a box out of 1"x 4" and put 1/4" hardware cloth on it turn it with the wire on the top side put a pan under it then place the water container on top . This helps them from making a huge mess and getting cold shock . I hope I understand what you are asking . Good luck ! 🍀

Mallard ducklings are easy. Starter food is good I crush it finer and sprinkle it on paper towels that I line the bottom of the brooder for a couple of days. They naturally pick at the ground and find the food then I use a small bowl. I also use a tiny shallow bowl for water about a half inch deep. Heat is a must 24-7 tapering off temperature after a couple weeks.
