Wild Easterns coming Thurs. Need Instructions!!!!

Harp is this the same electric netting you use for your freedom rangers?

Yes it is 48" tall

And once again I am confused by your website and what you say here? This is from your website. http://www.harpturkeyranch.com/

Here
at the ranch we are dedicated to raising Heritage Turkeys & Poulet Rouge Broilers the way nature intended. Certified Naturally Grown,Pasture Raised & humanly treated. None of our poultry are grown in "tractors" or "field pens" as we feel this is just a glorified outside caged bird grow out. The birds can't fly run and do what a bird is suppose to. You will not find any grow out pens here. Our birds are housed in a spacious out side retreat. They are free to roam, fly & run where they want when they want with in in there area.

Some pictures of your set up and birds would really be a big help to people that don't use field pens or tractors. I for one am very curious as to how this is done.

Yes Steve they are not grown in tractors aka pasture pens. They are enclosed in a 1/4 acre area that doesn't restrict them from doing their natural duties as a tractor aka pasture pen would. pasture pen/tractor are the same thing except a tractor is usually smaller then a pasture pen is. In our set up they can come and go from their house and do what they want when they want and they have the choice of going in for the night or they sleep out in the grass or ??? It is up to them.

Then after they are older they are moved to a fenced in acre plots that they can do what they want when they want. And then rotated to a new area when the one they are in needs a rest. Still no tractors aka pasture pens used.

To answer your question no we don't raise our market birds in any sorta pen, unless you consider a fenced in pasture a pen ????

I hope this clarifies all your ??'s

I ended up getting Rio Grands. The turkey guy told me I was buying Wild Easterns but he lied. Anyway, I got the turkeys regardless. I think my plan will work. The only issue I see is once they are too big for the bigger brooder (chicken coop sectioned off) I don't know what I will do with them. I think that my pen is too small. The chickens free range...kind of. I keep a close eye on them. I don't want the turkeys eating up my flower beds so free ranging is not an option.

So far so good. They are eating wild game bird starter. The guy at the feed store said there is no such thing as "medicated" wild game bird starter. Should I give them vitamins?

So at 8 to 9 weeks old you put them outside, on the ground in the electric netting yes? Don't the poults fly over it?

Yeah 8-10 weeks old depending on weather.

No the poults don't fly over it. I have only experienced turkeys flying over a fence if there is something they can fly up to land and then over.

We run all of our turkeys in 48" fence and never had one out of thousands of birds just fly over for no reason unless dog is in chase/playing or they land on something and then jump over. They have all the room they want and can do what ever they want so they have no reason to fly over when they got food water and room to roam. We keep 100 turkeys per acre and they all do fine in 48" fence.

Harp.... would you please post a pic of 100 turkeys in your fence so we can count them? You do have a camera but for some reason never post any pics of your turkeys? you posted many of your freedom rangers and a video. I'm wondering how you do it, since our adult turkeys can clear a 6 foot fence with ease when they want to and the poults need to be in a covered pen for the same reason.... how do you keep them grounded?

Yes ours can too if they are put in a small area they go right over, but they don't fly over the fence they fly up to the roofs then they go over, that is only when they are enclosed in a small area.

We have never had a problem with our poults ever flying over any fence, the biggest issue we have with the poults is they go thru the fence or under it way before they ever fly over it, unless they are perched on something higher then the fence and then they go right over. Now our chickens can and do fly over but they are a little smarter then the turkeys as the chickens only get shocked once and they are done but the same poult will shock it self over and over, I actually counted 25 times within a half hour for the same poult and they continue to do so for about the first week then they stop ??? Just a little slower I guess.

I don't know why you think I always need to prove something to you ?? Any one has any questions or concerns that I have turkeys and raise them then either they can come over first hand or email me, but for me to always have to prove myself to you is just plain stupid !!!

All you have to do is just back up what you say and claim.... but that never seems to be forthcoming. You make claims of hundreds of turkeys but never one pic? That tells me how many you have.
