Wild Emus at The Lilly Pilly Tree

First: it's the other way around. Emus are a gynocentric species: the females do the choosing.

We don’t know Undersized Emu’s age, but she has filled out, and is now a fine-looking female.

She has no leverage at all with Limpy Chick and co. (though she insists on foomphing at them -- ??!!) She clearly considers the house-clearing her home turf.

Thus, she is a single female at the beginning of the breeding season.

Brash Boy did not quite ‘drive her off’ her wheat. (Though we don’t have great observations.)

The pair of them are already chummily sharing the bit of wheat she gets, although B.B. still bolts at the sight of me (but will steadily become tamer).

So, will they form a breeding-pair?

It is often the case that the first or even second ‘prospective consort’ doesn’t ‘stick’; but indeed, we will sit and observe, and see if the pair becomes a pair.
