Anyone know how to get rid of wild hogs? I haven't put my chicks out in their newly built coop yet, but our Pyrenees got into a tango with one and got hurt pretty bad. We went looking on the property and saw all where they are laying up at night. I didn't realize they we're coming up this close to the house though(and in fact laying on just the other side of where we just built the coop).
I'm thinking about putting out food and then just waiting there with my .22 since I'm so dang mad at them for what they did to my poor dog.
Anywho is you have any thoughts ect I would appreciate it!!

Yep, bigger gun. A .22 will just make them mad if your aim sucks! I know out here there is no hunting season for wild hogs. You could end up with some pork for your freezer.

Agreed, bigger caliber weapon!

And a barbecue pit for later!

ETA: I would not at all reccomend going after wild pigs with a .22 unless you have a good climbing tree handy for the pig's reaction.

If you want to get rid of wild hogs,

1. You are gonna need a bigger gun, (probably a lot bigger)
2. You are gonna need a lot of ammunition
3. You are going to need a lot of perseverance
4. You are going to most likely need some friends with bigger guns.

Hogs are tough, mean, very intelligent, and very mean. If you declare all out war on them they will probably move away (you most likely will not eradicate them all). It will take baiting and waiting (Preferably in a tree stand so they don't get you). Most hogs tend to nocturnal so you will probably see them more at night then in the day. Get you as many friends/neighbors that you trust to rotate with you and stand guard. You may be able to find someone around there who hunts hogs with dogs that would be happy to come run them down (that would create somewhat of a "run" response next time your dog gets after them). If you continuously bring the hell, fire, and brimstone to them then they should move on somewhere less dangerous.

i have a great homemade bbq recipe some where ! bigger gun definately!!!!! if you shoot them with that they will turn on you in a second! they will also charge you in groups so be very careful you should hut in groups no smaller then 5 if their is alot of them.

Ok, I have a shotgun...is that brimstone enough? LOL. Anywho I have only ever hunted deer so .22 was my only thought but we will get bigger ones out of the cabinet.

I definitely won't have a problem bringing hell to them, I'm so mad I could spit. We just love our pup, not to mention it's killing my back lugging a 50lb puppy around.

I recently saw some show on TV talking about how much more aggressive and dangerous wild hogs are these days. I believe they mentioned that somehow Russian hog blood is now mixed in with our native population. They say these newer mixed blood hogs are REALLY nasty.
Is there any truth to this..? Have any of you who know and hunt wild hogs heard about this..? Do wild hogs kill and eat chickens...?
