Sundance was quiet for several minutes. When she spoke, the words came out in a flood. "I had a foal once in Father's herd. He may have been--but there were a few young stud he hadn't gotten rid of yet. Anyway, sudden rains came. Our herd was in a dry riverbed, and we didn't know--didn't know that the giant water-wall was coming!"

"Shhh" he whispered. "It's alright baby... Do you want another foal?"

"I don't know." Sundance looked briefly into Diablo's eyes before turning her head. "Will it happen again? Will he be caught in a flood?"

It wasn't just Sundance's colt that had been lost; several herdmates had been unable to escape the rushing water.

Glacier reared and whinnied.

Eclipse whinnied in return. She saw the silhouette of the stallion. She stepped protectively in front of her foal.

"I don't know." Sundance looked briefly into Diablo's eyes before turning her head. "Will it happen again? Will he be caught in a flood?"

It wasn't just Sundance's colt that had been lost; several herdmates had been unable to escape the rushing water.

Diablo shook his head. "I've lived around these mountains my whole life. There has never been a flood."
