Winona growled, and turned away with a flick of her tail. Bandito stood still, staring at Windstar for a moment. His dam whipped her head around, and gave him a firm nip on the rear. Bandito squealed, and a streak of black foal cannonballed to his mother's side.

Diablo raised his eyebrows in amusement. "Winona'll come around. Eventually."
Windstar really wanted to meet Bandito, but she knew better than to press her luck with Winona. The dun would just have to try again later.

"Are you sure? If she can't be friends with someone like Windstar, what hope do I have?" Sundance didn't wait for an answer. She walked over to Windstar to soothe her twin's ruffled feelings.

"Come on, Windstar. Let's play." It only took Sundance a few nips to Windstar's hip to get the lighter twin excited. Soon, the twins were cantering happily together, kicking up their heels almost in unison.

Diablo rolled his eyes. Mares, he thought, what makes them tick?

Windstar quickly tired of Sundance's game. Slowing to a walk, she cast her eyes about, searching for Calypso. She'd been friendly before; maybe she'd want to chat some more.

As her twin headed toward Calypso, Sundance followed but kept her distance.

Calypso was grazing a ways away. Her belly was even more swollen than before, and a thick sweat coated her neck.

"Windstar, you idiot!" Sundance reached out and bit her twin's flank, forcing the other mare to turn and face her. "I don't think she wants company."
Calypso looked at the twins with her big brown eyes. They were filled with terror. She ripped a shoot of grass up from the dry earth, but she spit it out. "The foal is coming." She said to the twins flatly.

Windstar was at a loss for words, but Sundance called out, "Diablo!"
Diablo looked up from his grazing, and rushed over. "Calypso!" he cried, as the mare lay down and the contractions started. Yet, he managed to stay his distance. "Windstar! Sundance! Keep your distance!" He snapped.

Windstar turned and walked away, heeding Diabo's command. She looked absolutely crestfallen. Winona hated her, she couldn't play with Bandito and Calypso was foaling.

Sundance was quick to react to Diablo's snap. She trotted away from everyone.
