Orestes gave a surprised grunt and twisted his head to bite Moon's foreleg.

Cerulean had stopped several yards away and was whinnying encouragement for whichever stallion heard her.

(i didn't say he missed.)

Moon heard her whinny and knew he'd better try harder. He picked his foot out of Orestes's mouth and stomped it, trying to reach his rival's head.

Orestes' eyes went nearly white, and he bolted out of reach, squealing. He raced at Cerulean and bit her rump savagely. When then frightened blue roan bucked and bolted, the strawberry roan followed.
