wild peacock's/peafowl in my back yard

Hi to all!!! This morning I woke up to the honking of wild peacocks in my backyard. We live in South East Michigan & I have never heard of wild peacocks just showing up in your back yard!!!! My fear is I have 7 1 yr old hens & I was wondering will they hurt my hens? If so what do I do???

More then likely they're escapees from someones farm

, They should leave your hens alone and will probably run around with them to eat and drink, who knows you may have new pets

and then again they may just be passing thought to keep away from the jailer

thank you Steve, it was a little odd seeing them this morning. They have been at my house now since 7:30 a.m. They are pretty, so as long as they leave the chicks alone I have no issue with them hanging out at my house!!!!! They have eaten 2 feeders worth of chicken food since this morning so if they stick around what do I need to feed them?

Since you do not have them penned up: chicken feed, corn chops, dry dog or cat food, peafowl are pretty easy to feed what ever you feed everyone else they will eat it also.

They have probably been on the run for awhile so they will eat and drink alot.
How many showed up at your place??

Lucky. I wish I had peafowl show up at my place for free, I gotta pay for all the peafowl that show up at my place

This happen alot, I have sold alot of hens to people who had a peacock show up.

Peacocks go looking for love

they don' care if its chicken , guineas, hens are hens......

Lot of people lose peacocks when they get new ones, not keeping them penned long enought.

Odd never hear of peahen showing up that much.

I did have 3 IB peahens just show up in a tree over my Pea Pen. They stayed and became girlfriends to my IB. Never found the owner........

At about 2 pm all 4 of the peacocks walked into the woods & I have not seen them since. The 2 males stayed in the brush & the 2 females actually were grazing with my 7 hens..... we have lived in our house for 2 yrs. now & this is the 1st they visited us. My son, who is 5, was so.....excited to see them & my hubby was like I have seen them at the zoo, but never up close. I am wondering if they are going to show back up in the morning.... They seem to like my chickens food!!!!

Ha ha ha. This is how I got started in peafowl years ago - a male showed up looking for love, like deerman said. He was on and off the property for a few days, then chose a favorite tree at the rear of the farm. He roosted there every night, same limb, and hung out in a small treeline area during the day. I'd go back and feed him birdseed while I researched what peafowl eat.

After about 8 months (through a very nasty winter) he was still with us, so we decided he wanted to be here. We built an aviary and got him a girlfriend. He walked right into the aviary to be with her. As they say, the rest is history... Big Bird is still with us and is probably about 15 years old, maybe older. He's a treasure and we adore all of our peas.

Really cool! my mom was walking out of work one day, and found peacock feathers in the field behind Fedex right outside of Grand rapids michigan. They survive the winters and thrive!
