About a week ago my dad had a ring neck pheasant show up and it has stayed ever since. My dad feeds the birds with a standard bird feeder off the ground so it probably eats some of the seeds the birds kick out. Now my father will purposely feed and put water out for the pheasant.
The problem is he isn't afraid of people and RACES VEHICLES!!!! It's funny but I know it was not good he does this. Sure enough about two weeks back someone hit him ans the neighbor saw it and went to pick it up and cook it thinking it was dead. (Hahaha country life, I would have done the same) As my neighbor approached it the bird got up and ran away. No one saw it for a few days and now it's back. It's right wing feathers look a bit missing or weird probably from the run in but it walks and runs fine. I'm not at all familiar with these birds and hope someone knows more than I. I will put pics of Buddy (as my dad names him XD) and try to post a video. It has no tags or anything to show it is a pet but some day maybe it escaped a game farm or something and that is why it doesn't have a huge fear of humans. It is cool how close we can get but I know that's not good to because he needs more fear. We don't hunt pheasants and know Buddy but some neighbors might. If they would I wouldn't be real angry because not everyone knows and I hear there delicious.....plus I read the only ones to live a longer time are captive where they can live about 3 years where most wild one's live 1ish year.
Can you see if his back looks normal? To me it looks like a hump by the part where the gray feathers start. Any other observations about his health you guys see in the pic?
He use to fly but I haven't seen it since before the accident. Before the accident my dad used a net to catch him and then carefully tossed him in the air after looking at him holding the human interaction would scare him......he flew up and then landed and walked behind my dad to the house. It didn't work to well. Lol. It is warm weather now in Wisconsin about 70- 85 for a high and 50's for a low. I hope he would find a mate if this is the time but there isn't a huge population of them around.
On a better note he is more fearful of other people and animals. Before the car got him he did got away from the neighbor's dog running toward him....he isn't dumb. I know he is wild and don't want to make him a pet and understand he probably won't live long.....i just want to know if he is normal......or raised on a pheasant farm. My dad and I think a pheasant farm.

Most likely he escaped from someones pen.Even pen raised ringnecks are skittish and usually take flight at the site of anything, unless someone has spent time in taming him down.He looks fine in the pics.He may have injured his wing in the accident but it should heel fine as it doesn't look to be drooping. As long as he stops chasing vehicles and no predators are after him he should do fine. They are cold hardy birds so even winter temps shouldn't bother him. They absolutely love peanuts,BUT THEY HAVE TO BE SALT FREE!No birds should be fed with anything that contains salt. They love fruits(NO GRAPES UNLESS YOU CUT THEM UP.They swallow them whole and choke to death!)veggies ,wild bird seed.In N.H.,Tony.

If you do decide to catch him make sure you have a permit from your state to keep him.All it takes is 1 person to turn you in and the fines are not worth the trouble.A permit here in N.H is only 25.00.They call it a propergators permit here. Most states require a permit.

Thanks I talked to my dad and he said he doesn't want to raise them so that's good. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah he has his breeding wattles up so he is looking for a hen. They sometimes become twiterpated during breeding season and don't pay to much attention to things around them.Have that strong urgency to find a hen.

Oh so that must be the ear feathers? Correction on time frame to we first saw him on March 15th and when he was hit he layed low somewhere for about a month not a week.

I don't know if you are familiar with all the pheasant breeds, but there are over 60 different breeds of pheasants from all over the world. Here's a few of the ones I raise.
