I've hatched Eastern Wild turkeys taken from a nest in the wild before and those babies were very wild and wirey right out of the egg. we never could get them to tame down. They were a totally different acting bird than the Eastern Wilds I ordered from a hatchery. The hatchery birds were as mellow and calm as the Bronze turkeys I had at the time. Those true wild birds would putt like crazy and run/fly into the fence trying to get away when the pen was approached.

I plan on letting them free range w/ everything else. So if they really want to leave they will be able to. I hope they are on the tame side and stick around but if they do I hope they fit in with the flock at the creek.

I had a royal palm hen and babies join up with a wild hen and her babies. While they weren't tame enough to eat from my hand, they would stand about 10 feet from me and wait for me to put the feed down (feed for the palm and chicks, these guys helped themselves to it, too...). They were wild hatched, and already feathered when I met them. For a wild bunch, they sure didn't mind me being around!

I caught 4 wild turkey chicks. I raised them and now they are 12 weeks old and just are starting to gobble. There are only two left and one died the other day, I don't know why. Right know I have a jake and a hen. The only way they'll live is that you have to go and collect bugs for them twice a day, and a lot of bugs till there 8 weeks old. I used regular chick start and when I caught them. I'm wating for them to have chicks this spring I want to have 5 turkies all together. I heard they lay 15-20 eggs at a time I don't know? I hunt a lot and I want to learn from the turkies.I clip there wings so they don't fly away. And expect them to start yelping and gobbling very loud at 9 weeks old.

sorry for the bad picture the turkies are not tame.
