I think it's great! About 6 of them, I was walking back toward the back of the place with a bunch of greens for my gals, and saw them sauntering down the path, they got a little nervous seeing me so I stopped and made what I hope were some friendly sounds.

I don't know of any problems they could cause, they eat grapes in the fall but we don't eat all of ours anyway, I don't think they'll be a garden pest and if they are turn out to be ..... smoked turkey!

They wandered around in the orchard area while the land owner and I weeded and talked, so far I'm glad they feel comfortable here.

The last couple of years, we've seen three wild turkey hens with their poults around here. They usually have about 10 poults, altogether. It's hysterical when we have to stop and let them all cross the road.

we get them here and they are not bothered by my roos and hens i have seen several moms and all were taking care of about 30 chicks.. they love all the grass hoppers and my wild raspberries on the property..

While I did enjoy them the one year they hung out here...

1. You say you don't eat all of your grapes, if they find them you won't eat any of your grapes. Before they are fully ripe, they'll be gone.

2. If you have apple trees, any low apples will be gone. This can actually be an advantage because they also clean up fallen fruit which means less yellowjackets.

3. Make sure you don't have trees for them to roost in right in front of your house, they put out a huge amount of poop while roosting.

4. Don't let them get too comfortable with you, I have heard of a few instances locally where a turkey attacks people getting out of their car or trying to come out of their house (and a friend of mine was hiking with another friend and got chased back to their vehicle by a turkey).

All that being said, they are great grasshopper control, and will eat potato bugs in the garden, too. Make sure you take pictures!

What would a turkey do to you if you didn't run away from it? I've seen the vids of a turkey making a run at someone and the person just screamed and ran away.........just wondering.

I had a flock of turkeys this fall hanging around up the street from me. I hadn't seen them in this area EVER. There is woods nearby. Anyway, they just dissapeared in mid November and I haven't seen them since. Do they kinda know Thanksgiving is coming up?

I LOVED seeing them!!! Everyone else in the area were like "yeah, big deal" or they just didn't seem to notice.
