Just wanted to share some pictures I took of an Eastern Wild Turkey hen that started staying right at my lot that I have my two Royal Palm Turkey Tom's in. She stayed the whole day yesterday, and was back out this morning at daylight. My Tom's are very happy because they don't have any hens right now, so they are really showing off. There's no chance of mating because my 🦃 are in a big lot with a coop (for protection from predators). That's a good thing though, wild 🦃 should stay pure bred in my opinion. I don't know why the wild 🦃 isn't with her flock, but I'm glad she is visiting. 😁

Unlike domestic turkeys the wild hens leave the flock once breeding is done. They won't normally join the boys again until fall while preparing for winter.

It is relatively common for a wild hen that has had a failed nest to come in to the calls of domestic toms.

That's really interesting, thanks. I thought she might have had something destroy her eggs. I didn't know they went out on their own until fall. That's cool. I see wild 🦃 some, but I've never had one stay right beside of my boys. She's not very flighty, she moves a little when I come out, but only a little bit, then goes right back. I can see her if I peek around the corner of the lot, she's right beside of it. I enjoy seeing her.
