Will a $10 mister from Home Depot drench the ground in my run?

I see you use a timer too. Can you explain how a timer on a hose works?

I have one where I can have it come on for so many hours a day then turns off. when I get home I manually put the timer on to get more watering done.

Thanks. You know, this sounds like another opportunity to spend money on my chickens! I might even use it for the garden sometimes - novel idea!

I have a mister attached to a tree in the backyard where the chickens hang out during the day. It's the PVC kind that you put together. Even though it's humid here in south Texas it seems to work fine. The wind blows here most days and that mist feels really good. I do worry about the ground, which is sand, staying too wet. They like to dig holes in the sand to lay in.

I think sand is okay. You could turn it over on some dry days to let the moisture evaporate - maybe. It's probably nice and cool for the birds. I have dirt >>> mud + Silkies = seriously bad hair day!

I was going to try the misters and never did, but I might if it gets hot enough again. I gave them deep shade and ice jugs instead. Used the misters to green up the moss on my ancient patio. That worked well!

Finally tried the mister. Chickens petrified and wouldn't even go near the plate of spinach and black soldier fly larvae that was getting very slightly misted. I felt sorry for them and took it away. Works great on the patio moss though! Greened things up nicely today.

They really don't need to be close to the mister at all. I happen to have one that loves the "shower" but the others just wander around and go about their business. Some stay as far away as possible. Even with it just at the end of the run on the outside, it's still cooling the air around them.

Give them time....most don't like (hate) new things, but acclimate within a day or so.
