I know that a broody hen will hatch and raise ducklings, but will a broody duck hatch and raise chicks? If they will I have a broody duck that I would like to put some chicken eggs under. She has raised ducklings before and is a good momma.

Someone told a duck cant hatch chicks (she may drown them). I guess you could if you could guarantee she wont have access to water, but its tricky when you need open bowls for ducks on account of their bills.

I currently have a chicken on ducks eggs and hoping for success. But you never know when you dabble with mother nature. However poultry do make great mums to whatever they hatch out. Might be worth a try?

I've had good luck with chickens hatching duck eggs. In fact, My chickens have hatched more duck eggs than the ducks have.

Yes why not try it and don;t worry there's a big chance my neighbor did that before and they were adorable... but if you prevent your duck from swimming it will be better and more chicks to hatch ;) hope it'll work if ,yes post some pictures!!

I have an Indian Runner that was sitting on a nest that I thought consisted of duck eggs...turns out she hatched an Australorp chick! One chick didn't make it and after candeling the eggs, found that four of them, for certain, still were moving around. Still waiting to see what the other eggs hold, but not sure how long to wait...Momma duck is REALLY protective!

Friends of mine keept ducks and chickens together. Sometimes the chickens play cuckoo and sneak some eggs into the ducks' nests and when the chicks hatch, the duck accepts the chicks as if they were her own offspring. But then the duck goes into the pond and my friends have to be quick and prevent the chicks from following their foster mother into the pond.

My chickens always seem to sneak eggs into the duck nests. I just keep an eye out and take the babies away so they will stay and hatch their own eggs. You do need to be careful letting them raise the chicks. The duck will lead them to water and they won't know any better and probably follow her.
