Hello all,
This may be a dumb question but oh well.
Will hens still breed while they are broody and sitting on a nest of eggs? I have a couple silver laced wyondottes I let free range and rome the yard one has become very broody and won't leave the coop. She has been this way for about a week. I have a golden laced wyondotte rooster that is locked in a separate coop. I am wondering if I move him in with her will they still breed. As of now the eggs she is sitting on are not fertile because she is not with a rooster. Let me know what ya think.
Thanks, Shane

My broody hens hold out their wings, ruffle their feathers, run around, make this special call, and have pale combs, all to show roosters they aren't ready to breed. Of course, the roosters want to be the fathers of their eggs so they try to chase them down, but the broodies will have nothing of it.
You could give it a try though.

Best of luck!

Interesting situation...but Need more info.

Is the rooster new to you and never been with the hens?

Or has this rooster been with the hens before she went broody?

If he had been mating them up to 2-3 weeks before you removed him, the egg may be fertile.

If he is new to the place and you want to integrate him,
I'd recommend breaking the broody first.

Broodies do not lay or allow mating.
