Will a clipped beak grow back

Update on "Gracie" (pullet with clipped beak). Went well at the vet. He told me that whoever clipped her beak needless to say did a botch job. Not done with a heated blade? Not sure I have that right but rather it appears to have been done with dog clippers! Horrific! What in the world is wrong with people. Even though both top and bottom were clipped. He feels they will grow back. He did dremmel the bottom to get the edged (forked look) more oval shaped. She still looks like she is whistling because when she closes her beak there is still the hole at the end if you understand what i'm saying. I'll try to get a picture this weekend and post. But I feel better now and will put her out with the others this weekend to see how they all do together. I did ask the vet why there are so many opionions on beak regrowth. I mean it either grows back or not right? He too said the same as Nambroth, in that if the beak was cut very short and cauterized it will not grow back. I still find it very confusing as my daughter in law got some pullets that had their beaks clipped and she didn't realize they were going to be doing that and needless to say was not happy. None of those grew back. So my fingers are crossed the Gracie's beak will grow back, even if it's just enough for the vet to shape up a little more for proper ground peaking fun. Thanks to everyone for your feedback. I'll post a picture this weekend.

Help!! I got a light brahma today & the top of her beak is missing. The lady I got her from said that hatcheries do this? Can anyone shed light on this? My son & daughter are very upset that someone would do this to a chicken.
Here she is:

SingingChickens, how sad! I don't know of any hatcheries that do this unless you request beak-clipping, OR if you buy started pullets (older pullets that have been raised by the hatchery... these are often clipped). So, if the lady you got her from was her first owner, she may well have had some inkling as to this being done. It is strange to me that anyone could clip a brahma, as they are generally quite sweet and gentle.
Regardless, whoever did this clip didn't even do it correctly from the looks of it. She will probably always need a deep bowl to eat out of, with a few inches of feed in it so that she can scoop it up properly. Thank you for giving her a good home.

I know this is an old post, but my problem is new. yesterday I bought 2 pullets, the guy sells them as brown leghorns! and they are ISA brown (RIR/Wleghorn cross, red sex link). Today I have noticed that one has got either slightly crooked beak or some kind of grow on the bottom beak (looks like nail on human fingers) and the other one has got trimmed beak (both, upper trimmed shorter). I am very upset because my chicken are free ranging and pecking around. what happened to your Gracie, did her beak grow up?

No, her beak did not grow back. She has adapted the best she can. She has trouble picking up anything very small on a flat surface. She'll also miss the occasional worm that is trying to go back in the ground because she doesn't have the pointed beak in order to grab hold. But she does surprisingly well. I don't think she preens as well as our others either. I only took her to the vet the one time to have the beak shaped. Her beak was cut so close there was very little shaping that could be done. She's a happy and healthy little hen. Your hen will do ok. You could try to get it shaped. I would just keep and eye on her and make sure she is able to pick up her crumbles, etc. We also make sure feeders have plenty of food so Gracie will be able to pick up food with no problem. I really wish people would STOP trimming the beak on chicks. I think it's cruel! Best of luck.

thank you. glad to hear she is doing well.

I have just taken photo of 1:

if you compare to your hen, what do you think if there is any chance to grow? I am also concerned of my other chicken pecking them.

update: I put some grains on the coop floor and didn't find any! as there was a half mug, I believe that both of them ate it.

thanks for the follow up.

I just came across this thread looking for some help/info on our new girl Greta. We are new at chickens and felt so sorry for her that we had to get her. It's horrendous to me. It's hard for her to peck anything off of the ground. And same as you...I found it easier for her to eat out of a deep full dish. I see that the bottom beak gets compacted with dirt and little pebbles. Anyone seen a beak done as bad as hers?
