Will a cockerel speed up egg laying in a pullet?

Mine was a cockerel, only 5 months old. I never saw him jump on any hen that wasn't yet laying. His new owner told me he's seen the same behavior so far with his flock of 17 hens which he got this spring.
That's pretty rare and valuable, should breed that boy!

While there are no studies supporting such a theory, I have often wondered the same thing. But, my inclination is to say that the pullet will arrive at POL when she is programmed to do so, whether there is a cockerel or rooster or not. However, POL can be influenced by timing of summer solstice in relation to sexual maturity.

I always thought the same thing about him. I think his new owner does plan to raise some of his chicks. He is a handsome lad and so far, was very good and respectful of the ladies. Of course, all that could change as he matures. Here's the last pic of him I took before he left to be with his new harem. I think he would make beautiful babies! :)
