Ok, I have a red tailed hawk nearby that has cleaned me out of several chickens. I have since stopped free-ranging and they are penned all the time. I'd like to let them free range again as I haven't seen the hawk lately. I have since put my donkey back into the pasture that has the chicken pens. My question is, will her presence keep the hawk from coming back?

Why would a donkey scare a bird away? Sorry, it's just not gonna happen.

I have a donkey and a jackass. They are supposed to keep the fox and coyote away. If they are supposed to keep the hawks away, they aren't doing their job!!! LOL!! We spotted a hawk yesterday. Probably spying the hen with 5 chicks walking around the yard.

I don't believe a donkey will deter your hawks. *I* don't even deter my hawks. They are bold creatures.

As a devoted mini donkey owner..they could care less about birds. They keep away ground dwelling creatures like coyotes and anything that resembles a dog... Donkeys do best at being hugged.

Yes, I absolutely agree with that. They are wonderful. It seems silly now, but I was just wondering if having a larger animal close by would make them less likely to drop in. I didn't think she would go after them as if they were a coyote or dog, though that would be nice.
