I have a Muscovy duck that has been sitting on eggs. One of our Isa browns has been laying eggs in the ducks nest and now has decided that she wants to sit on them as well. We split the eggs up and gave the duck eggs to the duck and the chook eggs to the chook but kept them in the same box. Today I found a dead chick in the box.

What should I do? Would the duck kill the chick?

We don't know for sure especially the first hatch, but some ducks make superb moms, others just for some unexplained reason either step on or get aggressive with the ducklings. Sometimes it is the drake who otherwise seemed mellow. I don't know of a way to know ahead of time, from anything I have read here people just need to be watchful.

Please keep us updated.

I also have 14 week old Muscovy ducks. Just wondering when they would start laying.
Thanks :)
