will a guinea cock mate a french guinea hen?

This is what I have heard also. The French Guinea is actually a hybrid of two birds. They have to be artificially insemenated.

However, the chicken, turkey and peacock hybrids although somewaht rare do occure with a regular Guinea fowl. So I am guessing their could be a chance without AI.

I have two guinea's. how do i know if they are males or females? are there any specific things i can look for?

As far as I know the only sure way to know is to listen to them. The females have the ability to make a two syllable sound that is often described as Buck wheat buck wheat. They often walk around doing that as mindlessly as you could imagine. They and the males can both make the cackle orr gack gack gack sound.

I think once you know which is which the males look slightly more bulky and masculine but it is really hard to tell without hearing them.

I got mine from a breeder in pennsylvania If you google french guinea fowl you will for sure get a hit. I think it was Moyer hatchery. He had keets available much earlier than anyone else. He is the one that told me his would breed naturally no AI or anything like that. I lost my french one and wound up getting the standards this year. I like them better as they were far more agile and I felt like better prepared to take care of themselves. If you are raising them for meat and keep them cofined the French are darn good eats that is for sure.

ETA JM hatchery New holland Pa. I got mine very early like in March many wont have them until june. He heats his house to get the early fowl.
