will a hen lay an egg while sitting?

One of my hens has been sitting for 8 days now, but yesterday she laid an egg. I didn't think they were supposed lay eggs while sitting. Does this mean I only thought she was sitting?

Someone else probably laid an egg behind her. Hens typically do that to broodys.

Well, I have 5 hens and ever since she has been sitting I've only been getting 4 eggs a day, until yesterday when I got 5.

They usually won't lay if they are seriously setting. maybe they're faking you out....

I really think she is! LOL! I guess I'll just have to buy an incubator, because I have several neighbors and family members that are wanting baby chicks this spring.
