What I mean is, I have a 4 year old hen. Last year she went broody for the first time and raised a lovely flock. I've been keeping her because I hope she will go broody again. (there are other laying hens) She never was a very good layer but now....may not be laying at all, not sure. So then a friend asked if she would still go broody if she wasn't laying and I had no idea. Does anyone?

cheers!

Hi there!
I'm no expert on this, but I do believe it is possible for a non-layer to go broody.
Sjisty (Brahmalot) has a serama that is continually broody and has never laid an egg.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge will weigh in on the subject. :)

Yes. Often time people keep a hen that has stopped laying because as a hen gets more mature they are more likely to go broody. They are setting hens... A good mom that no longer lays their own eggs. The tendency towards broodiness doesn't seem to stop
