Will a tomato plant grow in a 5 gallon bucket?

You can mix in lots of composted chickie poo - its an EXCELLENT fertilizer, but be sure its not stinky & has completely broken down - at least 6 mo old. They'll grow like crazy on the stuff in the garden or in a bucket!

Cut a hole in the bottom of the bucket, and put the tomato growing out the bottom of the pot. Hang the pot in a tree or on the patio. Some people buy the dumb topsy turvy things when all you have to do is cut a hole in a bucket and do it. Hold the plant in the hole, then fill the bucket with potting soil. You don't have to stake the plant as it naturally grows upward, and the excess water runs out around the plant. Really neat.

No problem at all. I would not use much if any dirt and would use potting soil and fertilize with a all purpose fertilizer like a triple 10 or 15.
plants in pots need great airflow in the root zone. or you will get hot wet roots and root rot or wilt. make sure your pot has good holes on the bottom or if you are in a area where you can cut the bottom off even better. the the tomato can root into the ground. tomatos have a very deep root system if allowed.
