I have Welsummers, Black Copper Marans, Cuckoo Marans, French Blue Splash Marans, Australorps, a California White, and Americauan hens and pullets. My question is whether any of these breeds tend to go broody at times. I hope so, a broody hen always seems to hatch better for me than an incubator.

They all can go broody yes. I think the americauna might have more of a tendency that the others though ;p

Australorps are known for going broody and I think some of the Marans varieties (don't remember which) are as well. I have an EE hen that is broody now too so I think there's a pretty good chance that at least one of your girls will come thru for you.

I get about 6-8 eggs from my 9 that are laying now. If I leave the eggs in the nest for a day or two is there a chance one will go broody.

I have two Wheaten Ameracaunas who are broody now. I wish I could get them NOT to be broody.

If you want your hens to go broody, here is the way to do it. Buy an expensive incubator with room for lots and lots of eggs. That will do it.

I have 3 broodys now. 2 White Cochin, and a Buff Orpington. Cochins are great broodys, aswell as Silkies!
