I have our run built like Fort Knox (I hope) but my brother destroyed my sense of security by asking about burrowing animals - ground hogs, etc. I haven't seen any mention of any kind of burrowing animal being a threat to chickens so I'm wondering about them now. I saw where a ground hog had burrowed from one side to the other under a 8 ft concrete slab - that's spooky! Has anyone had a problem with something burrowing (not digging) under the 2 ft skirt carpenters wire around their run. And, if you have, what did you do about it. I sure hope those critters aren't a problem. Thanks in advance.

Your 2 foot skirt should be sufficient. I am not sure of groundhogs being dangerous to chickens anyways. They would be relatively easy to eradicate. Don't let others tell you fairytales just to scare you. If you see something trying to enter your run, then take appropriate measures then. Fortify what need to be at that time. Seeing you are in Missouri . are you snake proof ??? those devlz don't need much of an opening. Just a thought.
WISHING YOU BEST

I hope my run is secure from any predator, including snakes. About 3/4 of the run is under roof . The sides and top that isn't under roof is covered in 1/4" hardware cloth with the skirt and rocks that take two men to carry. I'm still afraid to leave the coop open at night though. There is probably a critter out there that can outsmart me.
