i'm new and just starting working on a coop / run.

I was wondering if I need to completely clear the area were the chicken will be in the run or will they take care of it? Half the area is cleared the other part goes into the wooded area behind our house. I want them to have a large fence in area but don't want to do the work to clear the area will they do it? I

f you don't think that is a good idea, I could put the run to the side of the house which is under larger trees and shaded most of the time.

The chickens will denude it in short order!

mine had no problem knocking out the weeds in their area. i guess it depends on how many chickens and weeds you have.

They will eat weeds, grass, insects and any small critters that run afoul of them once they have been turned loose in the area! They only thing they are not totally adept at clearing an area of are flies!
