Will chickens eat garlic from the garden?

I just got some laying chickens and was wondering if I can plant garlic in the area where they roam around without them eating the young plants. They're free range most of the time so my other option would be to fence in the garden with the garlic. Thanks for your help!

They can eat it. The more likely out come is that they scratch it up looking for something else to eat.
