Baby chicks are awake around the clock and sleep when they feel like it. They eat, drink, poop, sleep, peck, and explore their world. They make a bit of noise which increases as they get older. I kept my brooder in the house the first time because it was cold outside in the coop, but it is way too dirty with all of the dust and dander they produce. Since it is summer still I would raise them in an outdoor coop or garage, or wait until next summer. Of course they need heat lamps even in warm weather when they are first hatched. I would suggest reading everything you can on here for a few months to learn how to take care of them before you get chickens. It is much easier to buy some day old chicks than to incubate them when you are new at it.
