I have a very serious problem at this time . Chesepeake Energy has decided it needs to drill some more gas wells on our road and this time they are behind our home. They already have 6 wells up and down our road and now the guy next door has decided to sell his vacant property to them and they are taking hundreds of trees down beside and behind our property ( he wouldn't sell us 5 acres 3 years ago , the property had sentimental value to him, he was holding in to it.) Well the noise is unbelivable---- and the tree chopper is shaking the ground and everything in our home from 6 in the morning to after 7 at night. My 12 week old hens are absolutely freaking out , pecking each other and fighting and will not even come out of the coop they are so afraid. The 2 and the 5 week olds are so afraid that they are piling up on each other in a corner and I have spent the last 3 hours out there just sitting and talking to them to try to calm them but unfortunately I can not do that all day as I have things to do . Will too much noise and /or stress cause them to not lay if this blasted noise continues for a very long time. the last few wells took quite a few months to finish, Do you think that it is posible that the stress could kill them , and is there anything I can do to help them relax and try to cope with all of this? Any suggestions and advice will be very , very much appreciated! There is just about nothing I would not do for my girls I love them so, I worry about them all the time and I will try anything to help them Thanks Trudy

I am so sorry that this is happening to You and Your chickens. I don't have an answer, wish i did. Just keep trying to calm them is all i know. Sorry. Good luck on getting Peace back into Your Life.

Maybe check your local codes regarding noise and construction. I know around here there are limits on start and ending times.... In other words wake up the locals before 7 and get a visit from the police....

Also walk over and talk to the foreman. Be nice and sweet and ask if they can start a bit later. Explain that they are stressing your animals. Maybe have him walk over and hear the noise from your property. You may get lucky and have an understanding foreman who has animals. Or there may be rules and regulations he is supposed to follow but is bowing to the almighty buck or deadline....

If that doesn't work or before you go play nice with the supervisior.. Get a tape recorder. Record in the house, by the front door, by the chicken coop, by any animal pen, state where you are loud and clear. Then start complaining to any one and every one in any official position. You have the right to enjoy your property without excessive interuption by corporations...

Sometimes its the Loudest and most persistant pain in the A** that get changes made...
