Will duck poo hurt the garden?

Will duck poo hurt the garden? If I dump duck pool water on the plants will they all die? Anyone have any advice on this?

Your plants will LOVE it. I grew many plants last year in containers constantly fed duck pond water and they did fantastic. Check on the pond link in my signature for details.

Duck poo is GREAT fertilizer. We intentionally set up our pond so that when we pump it out to clean it, the dirty water goes into our small orchard. The fruit trees LOVE it, and have never looked better.

I would use it cautiously to be honest. You don't say what type of plants you want to use it on. If you are meaning vegetables or plants for human consumption, I would not at all recommend it. It is very easy to over do it, not to mention the fact that it is very important that it be composted properly. I would also ask on one of the garden boards, but using manure that is not properly composted on food crops is dangerous. I would check with someplace like an extension office or university website. I don't know enough that I could tell you what all to be worried about, but what I do know is that ducks can carry things like Salmonella that can infect a human if the poo gets ingested. You can get Salmonella even by kissing a duckling, so I would be very cautious about using uncomposted manure. I have read time and again about how dangerous it can be.

Now, if the plants are not food plants and you use it sparingly, it can be awesome. Our grass never looks better than when we rotate the ducks around the yard. Again though, it just depends on the plant too because different plants have different nitrogen requirements, etc...

You raise a great point, I think I will scrap the whole idea. I do compost and normally only use the pig manure on the fields. I just thought this would be a good idea based on another thread I read of somone saying this was great.

As long as it is mulched in the garden should do great. Just keep the ducks out when the garden starts growing.
